Description

Incorporated in 2009, Tai Chong Marine Engineering Sdn. Bhd. is a third generation branch off of Ipoh-based Tai Zhong Engineering Sdn. Bhd., which was established in 1965. Although broadly a mechanical automation company, one of Tai Zhong’s core businesses is marine engineering

Venturing into the niche and highly specialised field of marine engineering, offering a complete package of ship repair, maintenance, fabrication and overhaul of vessel propulsion system, Tai Chong Marine Engineering is helmed by Eric Chan, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia.

While there were plenty of opportunities for Eric to develop his engineering career Down Under, he made the tough decision to return home; for one, to contribute his expertise to his beloved country, and secondly, to continue the legacy of Tai Chong, passed down by his grandfather, whom he was close to since young.

In 2019, in the 10th anniversary of Tai Chong Marine Engineering, the company has trademark its brand to TCMARINE with a new logo and new vision. The best has yet to be unseal.

Joint venture with Enra group in 2023, TCME invest in EES to hold 30% of share to run the business.

The portfolio of TCMARINE includes the maintenance, repair and overhaul of propulsion system for tug boats, cargo boats, patrol vessels, frigates, and corvettes, all over the country. The comprehensive process begins with on-site service of shaft removal, to transportation of component to factory, pre-machining inspection, Nondestructive testing (NDT), repair of shaft by resleeving or by using TAFA’s American technology of thermal arc spray coating, finally, delivery to client, including reinstallation of the shaft.

Since TCMARINE’s involvement in machining field is quite encouraging and in high demand, TCMARINE have taken the initiative to acquire a Robotic Laser Cladding machine originated from Germany. The aim is to increase the productivity and to ensure high quality of work as well as to achieve standards that meet the needs of the customers, especially Royal Malaysian Navy. TCMARINE is the first country in Malaysia and the second in Southeast Asia that use the Robotic Laser Cladding technology

ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 to ensure a safer and healthier workplace, both obtained in 2016. With these quality standards in place, the company is currently pursuing international classification on standards for excellence by the world’s most prestigious bodies of the maritime industry, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Lloyd’s Register Marine. At this point, ship owners would be glad to know that service reports prepared by TCMARINE Engineering are widely recognised by insurance.
