White coffee was first created by Chinese immigrants who settled in Ipoh during Perak state’s tin-mining boom. Unaccustomed to the bitter Western-style coffee their British counterparts were partial to, they reinvented the brewing techniques to suit their palates. Much trial-and-error and many dollops of butter later, the Ipoh white coffee was born.

A humble beginning in 1965, Chek Hup was founded in Ipoh, specializing as a rock sugar producer. From 1965 until the 1990’s, we expanded the rock sugar business in Ipoh to cater to Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. In the year 2000, Chek Hup ventured into the instant beverage business, and that is when the 3in1 Ipoh White Coffee was launched, a first-of-its kind unique blend with rock sugar as one of the core ingredients.

Chek Hup also expanded the instant beverage business by launching Teh Tarik and Chocolate Drink ranges and stepped into the export market in 2003. Chek Hup Ipoh White Coffee gained popularity in both local and export markets in 2009, primarily in the Asia Pacific region (including Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines and the Australia) and Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan)
